ABOUT WOLFENSTEIN ZONEBackground Wolfenstein Zone was founded in November 2007 by Oliver Buus aka Krollspell. Back then, the site was called "RTCW2 Zone" - a title for the new Wolfenstein game was not known at that time. The main goal of the site was to become the no. 1 "RTCW 2" resource on the internet by collecting all information available about the new Wolfenstein game, as information was (very) scarce. The site has grown in popularity since its introduction, and since November 2007, the site has been visited by over 300.000 different people, generating over 7 million hits. In the beginning, the site was maintained by only one person, but now several admins have been appointed to the site. We'll continuously strive at being the top Wolfenstein resource out there, also after the game's release. Notable Events In August 2008, a person claiming to be an ex-Activision employee signed up on Wolfenstein Zone with the username "wolf1337", leaking inside information about the new Wolfenstein game. Wolf1337 claimed that the multiplayer part of Wolfenstein would be based on the Quake Wars engine, among many other things (read here). The information he provided was not verifiable, however. What made wolf1337's claims appear genuine, was what occured in March of 2009. In March 2009, the alleged ex-Activision employee "wolf1337" signed up on Wolfenstein Zone again, using another name, "wolf1337_returns". Wolf1337_returns leaked 22 images of 8 maps onto Wolfenstein Zone, backing up his initial claims of there being 8 maps, and what they were called. With the images originally leaked on Wolfenstein Zone, they were soon picked up by other websites and appeared all over the internet. Wolfenstein Zone was contacted by Activision a few hours after the appearance of the leaked multiplayer screens on the site, and was asked to remove the images due to embargo. The images were immediately removed by the admins, and the rest is history... In July of 2009, Wolfenstein Zone conducted an interview through Peter Sokal of id Software with Endrant Studios, the developers of Wolfenstein MP. The questions were submitted by the entire Wolfenstein community across multiple sites and were cherry-picked by Wolfenstein Zone staff. On the day the Q & A was published, the site received many thousands of hits every minute. |
